Welcome to the Updated Phantom Records...
Welcome.
Who We Are?
Phantom Records, GP now named Michael Widener, GP (A Small Business type called a General Partnership in the United States of America).
We're a small partnership between the owner and several talented contributors the owner has met over the last two decades. We're not a collective, but we collaborate based on our shared values and strong commitment to quality work, even if that means delaying what we do so our results match our expectations.
Commitment to quality causes unexpected sacrifices. For example, this site underwent many changes due to the events of the United States Pandemic and when our quality was threatened for reasons beyond our control, we shut down our site, and stopped producing because the quality was impossible to achieve during those conditions.
Quality can be a double-edged sword. It cuts when you make it, and and it cuts to stay committed. The cutting I refer to is the loss in earnings when those customers who aren't used to our quality would have purchased our products. I made those calls because sooner or later a customer finds the quality that's available ,not simply the quality that they found first.
We want to the their last stop. If they find us first, they'll experiment with competitors. But if they find of last, they'll stay. That's why the changes you have seen, for those of you who have known us since the early 2000s saw all of these changes happening right here on our web page. That's how we do what we do. We do it where you will see it. Because we're a transparent business.
What We Did for Mixtapes
Mixtapes were a maligned product when we entered the fray. Now, they're a known, legal, and well-known product, with United States Federal Laws stating how they can be sold and distributed, and how they cannot. We helped that come about and we're proud of that.
In keeping with our tradition of trailblazing without running afoul of any laws, we'll restore the information we had here before, that gives newcomers a crash course in the laws that now control how mixtape businesses must conduct their operations to avoid Take Down notices and unflattering scrutiny from regulators.
Stay tuned. That information has to identified, then translated into plain English before we will place it here. Expect to wait months for that. This is how we will be spending the holidays, both Thanksgiving and Christmas: writing.

What's New
This website is getting a technical overhaul. We're making it something called "Responsive" which means it will resize itself based on the size of the device viewing it. This takes a lot of work so expect to see signs of that ongoing. You will know when we're done.
